This book has been selected first prize of the VIIIth Spanish American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism under the category 'Publised Work'.
The purpose of this book is, from a subjective and personal point of view, to reflect on stairs – such a special element in architecture, given its enormous tectonic and cultural importance as well as its aesthetic, functional, formal, social and symbolic implications that lay behind this element. At times it is considered so obvious yet, most of the time, it becomes the protagonist of architectural space where it lies. At present, they are often unloved, mutilated both in its formal and tectonic expression, by regulations or sometimes considered absurd and overly restrictive, which has led us to consider them a mere artifacts of evacuation or practical use.
